So a Craigslist seller local to the wifey is selling a purported 64 Jag. I've been exchanging emails and I have him way down on price. Gonna kill my plans on getting any more guitars for the next few years though

I'm being cautious though as I'm waiting for a serial I can verify and it seems awfully dark. Thoughts?

Looks genuine to me. Even has the bridge mute on it.

If the price is right, you should give it a new home.

Yeah, I had the wife pull the trigger, costing me several grand though, by far the most expensive piece of gear I have bought. Also I think this makes me a hypocrite after all my bashing of vintage collectors

Haha, the money isn't a huge issue, its pretty much just my reenlistment bonus, but I had to make a deal with the wife that I can't buy any new gear after this unless I sell some first :(

i am not expert but also the pu covers look very bright white to me 9very new)
string tree looks also to be a replacement

serial number should be on the neck plate? and should be an L number (this looks liek a replacement neck plate)

The more I look at it, the more i dont like it... there are nicer and more original jags on the bay

Yes, the individual poles in the pickups on the 1964 Jaguar were at different heights.. some raised above the pickup body and some level with it. Another thing is the bridge. On the '64 Jag, the individual bridge pieces (adjustable components) were small, maybe 1/4", threaded barrels. I believe sometime in 1965 after CBS took over, those little barrels lost their threads and were made smooth.

I had an original 1964 sunburst Jaguar purchased new in April '64.

Congrats on your "new" Jag,the L series Jags had a real warmth to them and the Jag neck is just an absolute dream.I have a '65 that I paid only $150 for in 1977 and Bill Gates doesn't have enough money to get it from me.

It looks to be refinished and have replacement pickups and pickguard as well as bridge. I have been trying to sell one for about 1600 but have posted all the replacement parts therefore lower price.

Wifey's got it back in the states. Came with the removed parts sperately, and they were nasty looking in the pics she sent me, all kinds of marred up and oxidation, but the sn on the plate checked out with what I was told and with Fender customer service and the dude has had it on the market for some time so I got it under $2k. When I get back stateside, I'll pull it apart and do a more thorough inspection.
