Welcome.

Bear in mind that P90 polepieces do not line up with the string spread of a Mustang. You may want to consider Seymour Duncan SSL-3s instead.

Actually, that's the problem: In your particular situation, you need pickups with wider spaced polepieces, not narrower. See, the pole pieces of a typical Gibson spaced pickup are narrower than a typical Fender spaced pickup as the spring spread of most Gibsons are narrower than most Fenders. Hence, this is where "F" and "Trembucker" spaced pickups vs. Standard or Gibson spaced pickups came into being.

I see... but the pole positioning shouldn't affect the whole set up that bad right?
I mean that guy in the video managed it somehow..

To give you an objective answer: Many players require pickup pole pieces to line up with the strings while many other players feel that pole piece lineup is no big deal. Obviously, both camps number in the millions and are of all playing proficiencies.

I'm in the former's camp so I'd be the wrong person to encourage you towards the latter's.

http://www.lollarguitars.com/blog/tag/f-spaced-lollar-pickups/

Scroll down to question 1. Lollar should be able to make you an "f-spaced" p-90 for your mustang. According to the staff in my LGS, they (Lollar) are the bee's knees, as I always over-hear at least one guy talking about how (volume) balanced or clear, etc. they are as a brand

Hope this helps!!

When in doubt, google it!! :)

Seymour Duncan also makes these: http://www.seymourduncan.com/products/electric/humbucker/progressive/prails_shpr1/
They come in a "trembucker" which is the slightly wider than standard spacing you'd need, and they would give you all sorts of sound options, including a p-90
