I have an MIJ Jazzmaster that I received as a gift in 1998. I love this guitar, but from day one, though, I've had issues w/ the bridge. The saddle pieces of the stock bridge kept "collapsing" on the adjustment screws, so I bought a Mustang bridge and dropped it in. My intonation, however, has always been a bit shaky. I was wondering if the Adjusto-Matic bridge being used in the new J. Mascis Jazzmaster is a direct replacement for the stock bridge like the Mustang bridge is... If so, where could I find one? Would it be a case of simply dropping it in to the guitar and having the intonation redone?

Thanks....

It's not a direct replacement but it can be done. Many times there is a trade-off when it comes to upgrading. You might want to try and make use of the Mustang bridge, as there are some roadblocks in the process of upgrading...most importantly being string spacing, then trem use etc...

So, is the Tune-o-Matic bridge (like those used on Gibsons) the same as the Adjusto-Matic bridge used in the signature J. Mascis Jazzmaster?

I have heard that the T-O-M's would work, I don't remember if it was the Standard (used on Gibson's) or the Metric (used on Epiphone's). The size of the post would how to tell the difference.

It looks like thats the same bridge on the J Mascis Jazzmaster. It has knobs on both sides that move the bridge up or down when you turn them. There is a tuneomatic bridge on the Jaguar HH.

Do you know of anyone that might sell the Adjusto-matic bridge for the Jazzmaster? Do you know where I can get some specs on it?
