Being dead honest. I'm a complete guitar virgin. I know where everything is located. And what it is called. But other than that I'm lost. I know paint and body work and electronics but guitar restoration is a new hobby of mine. I would like to start building custom setups.

it comes down what it will take and what you have to start with. I have cleaned and fixed lots of guitars. If you have a diamond in the rough then take is to the highest level and make everything perfect. It is worth the money you put into it. if it is a cheap guitar then make it as nice as possible for as little as possible. In this case you know it is a knock off but that doesn't make it worthless just not worth putting a lot into it. It is still a functioning guitar. If you clean it up and make sure everything is working on it you could most likely get it up and running for a few bucks (strings, a little polish and some elbow grease). It was given to you by your father so that alone makes it worth something to you. This is just my opinion but i would clean it and make it a smooth little player. Who knows, it might really play like a demon. I have an old Teisco that would not be worth much to most but i did a number on it and it is a great guitar. It isn't a Jaguar, it isn't a les paul but is a great guitar (to me).

I think i will turn this into a PartsCaster as 1 of you guys called it.

Any recommnedations on tremolo setups that would fit the opening. and bridge and pickup setups.

I apologize for taking my time to respond. I've been sanding on this thing for a week or so now and finally got it sanded and ready for grain filler.

Oh, and ralfcaetano, I do not play the guitar, i just tend to have random expensive hobbies that i like to toy with.

I do have some pics though.

Here is the photo without the pickguard.

I've pretty much figured out the scheme i'm going with.

I will keep the fretboard the natural rosewood. The neck and headstock and body will be a deep gloss black. I'm deleting the pentiometers and switch about the neck pickup. I intend on using the EMG Zakk Wylde Dual Humbucker setup. The pickguard will be custom made from 3/32 Carbon Fiber. I'm going to be using a Mustang bridge. With a stock repro tremolo setup, unless someone has a better idea on the tremolo.

lol fair enough was only asking to know what kinda pickups you needed i guess i should have reformulated the question to "what kind of tone do you want it to have" but i see you got the zakk wylde set... good job and good luck ;) i think you'd be better off with the standard tone o matic bridge with jaguar tremolo cause of the placement of the bridge but i guess it's all a matter of mesuring the scale length you could still use the mustang bridge i guess

+1 i'm not 100% on your setup either man, danielbu2003 if you were asking me i was suggesting he'd go with something like one of these tone o matics

Image

just checked it out you could also use the mustang one...

Image

with one of these on the tremolo cavity kinda like the kurt cobain jaguar

Image

p.s. give us info on the electronics too

Well gentlemen. I have decided to go with the tune-o-matic bridge and the tremolo setup in the last post. It will have the zakk wylde humbucker setup. It has the pots required and wiring included. I'm omitting the alternative volume and tone switches above the pickups. The neck is now covered in wood grain filler. The body is almost finished with paint.

Do you happen to have any better ideas. I like the simplicity of the design of EMG's. P.S. I have already stated that I know nothing about different tones of the guitar, pickups, humbuckers, etc. And fake fender is better than no guitar at all. 8)
