I once owned, somewhere back in the 70's, a Fender Mustang guitar. Thing sounded pretty good, but it had the most BIZARRE tremolo that I've ever seen. One of those contraptions that make you wonder, "what were they THINKING????" Besides going out of tune every time you hit the [CENSORED] thing, it made changing strings a nightmare. Dang thing looked like one of the heavy slides that steel guitarists use, with a little arm attached to it. Didn't keep that axe very long at all.

I was just wondering if anyone else out there remembers that guitar??

Considering its in production, it was made quite famous by Cobain and alternative/indie in general in the 90s, and I own one, yes, I remember it. My favorite guitar I own, actually.

Hmmmmm . . . didn't know they still made the Mustang. I'll have to give the new ones a look-see. Curious as to whether they changed the design of that old tremolo.

I don't think so; I believe that has always been the bridge used on the "regular" Mustang - both the originals (made mid-1964 to either end-1980 or early-1981) and the MIJ reissues. Of course the new Pawn Shop Mustangs have a string-through fixed bridge.

That would defeat the purpose of a reissue. The trem isn't even that bad, if it gives you trouble you need to get it set up properly. If it still causes a problem, a bit of graphite in the saddles should get it to stay in tune properly.
