Hey guys, I bought a new Classic Player Jazzmaster and loved it right away. However, since I've lived with it and played rehearsals and gigs with it, I'm noticing a really strange high pitched feedback/squealing when I give it more overdrive. Something has been mentioned about these guitars potentially having a harmonic feedback created by the long saddle to bridge distance. However, I put foam under the strings to dampen them and it's still there. I'm pretty sure that this issue is a microphonic bridge pickup issue. Does anyone else have this problem? Do you know if these pickups are wax potted? I've been told, actually by a Seymour Duncan tech guy that I should put more foam under the bridge pickup. I also have put a buzz stop in it and the problem still exists. I have gotten no help from the dealer or fender here on the forums yet. I'm very frustrated that I have spent $800 and no one can help me. JEEZ!

I have heard nothing from anyone but this nice guy from Seymour Duncan. He was very helpful. I asked about the Fender pickups but he did not know if they were potted or not. I was inquiring about the SD Jazz replacement pups. He says:

Hi Greg,

Jazzmasters can tend to be a bit microphonic because they have lots of
switches and metal parts, etc. Before you swap out the pickups, try and
tighten everything that can be tightened. Don't crank down on anything,
but make sure that everything is snug---bridge mounting screws, switch
screws, strap button screws, etc. Sometimes that will help. Also, you
can try and put some really firm foam underneath the pickup (there may
be some in there already---but add more). If none of that works, let me
know.

Regards,
