Hi all,

I've searched, and i can't find anything, so i guess i'll ask.

On the weekend i drove 2.5 hrs (each way) to play, and eventually purchase a brand spankin new, 3 tone sunburst MIM Jaguar Classic Player HH. i LOVE IT! single coil, AND humbucker sounds... in one guitar? two for the price of one :)

now, this being a CP, it came with a tune o matic style bridge... so my question is this:

I find the mute on the older jags to be a facinating concept (i have a hard time playing lots of palm mute, wrist hurts, donno why) and was wondering can a mute be fitted to this bridge? if so, how much work is it? if not, how much work to put a mustang bridge on, and lastly, in the end, for those of you who have a mute, is it worth it?

oh, one more question while i have your attention, the spring to hold the trem arm stable seems to have fallen out... before i order another one, does having the spring in even hold the trem arm in place like it's supposed to?

thanks in advance

Hey.

I can only answer the first question, but it's the same answer from pretty much everybody whose ever used the mute bar, the answer is it's rubbish.
It was added for surf rock guitarists who basically palm mute all the time and so if the guitar does it for you then you can move your hand around, great, or not. Basically it goes out of tune more or less instantly and lifts the strings out of the saddle grooves with enthusiastic playing. On top of that the muting isn't even close to what you get with your hand.
I've herad many people removing it, but never one who's adding one, i'd say don't bother, even if it is easy, which it probably isn't because of the bridge.

Also, unless you actually got it for surf rock, the Jag isn't really a palm mutey style guitar so I wouldn't expect to do it for long periods.

I hope that answers the question, and i'm sorry but i don't know about the trem cause i've got a hard tail.
Oh and putting a Mustang bridge on isn't hard and is a common mod.
