I've tried both positions on my JM tremelo lock and neither seems to make any difference. I could pull it out and look but thought I'd check here first. BTW, if you have a J Mascis with the tune-o-matic, don't bother installing a Buzz Stop. I thought it might help with sustain but I prefer the original setup. Buzz Stop is a nice fix for shallow saddles but it seems to rob the strings of that nice loose, stretchy feel.

If it is properly adjusted and you have no broken strings, It should make no difference. Check out this site for info.
