Haven't seen one yet, but I'm eagerly waiting for this guitar to hit the music stores. My name and number are pretty much at every music store in austin so they can call me up when they arrive. I have high hopes, can't wait to try some quality work from japan.

I purchased the Surf Green one. Awesome. I love the look. More details soon, but, for now:

I changed the strings and a couple of the string ferrules came out during the process. Popped them back in, but, that's not right, right? Otherwise build quality looks good. I have some kvetches about a few things, especially, strangely, the gig bag.

Should I return this thing because of the string ferrules? I'm thinking about it. It seems that an on the gig string change could easily manifest a lost ferrule. Very big bummer on a gig.

Anyone? Fender? Bueller?

I would take it back and see if the same issue occurs, or just contact Fender, since it's in warranty.

I think I'm going to solve the problem with some elmers. Pretty simple fix, and I love this guitar. I don't want it to leave my hands. It reminds me of my black 70's strat from when I was a kid. I've always wanted Surf Green.

I think, for this build quality, $800 is reasonable, except:

My only major gripe is that I think that the Fender 'Deluxe' Gig Bag is a joke. I've had one before, for my bass, and it started deteriorating after about 60 Days. It couldn't support the weight of the Fender Precision it was designed to hold. Both straps broke. A piece of....

When I saw that bag inside the cardboard box this thing gets shipped in, my heart sank.

For $800, I guess these days I have to settle for plastic knobs and peghead tuners, (are the pegheads on the '51 plastic?) but I'd really like a decent case as part of the deal.

In my dreams?

Old style fender case. Those things are like display cases. And these guitars are works of art. Fender should promote that. They should be presented to the buyer in style.

Dear Fender,
Please introduce the 'Between The Rock and a Hard Case' Pawn Shop Series promotion for June/July. (Gotta be grandfathered in, please!) Buy any Pawn Shop Series and get a hard case for $50. Something like that.

Send these things out in style is my .02

Yeah, but that HSC is gonna drive prices up, and once you get in the $1000 range, people want American. ANd an American '72, '51, Mustang, etc isn't gonna sell.

The hardshell was an extra in '62 when I bought my Jazzmaster ($275.00) it cost $75.00. Prices may have changed but the practice is the same.

I have tried the '51 and the Mustang, but not the '72.
I didn't care for the '51, but I don't really like the Tele neck. The sound was only OK.

The Mustang was like a swiss army knife with 15 combinations as both pups are humbuckers and you can select either coil or both in each. Then you can select which pup or both. It was a lot of fun! But it never sounded as rich as an SG or Jazzmaster BT
