In order for you to be so unhappy with this guitar, it is either set up very badly or else it is a very bad match for you. I have never had strings pop out of the bridge on my Jazzmaster, and I pick pretty hard at times. Mine is an AVRI, which has the original bridge design and no Buzzstop or relocated tailpiece. I use .010 guage strings, which I feel is the lightest you should go on a Jazzmaster.

I don't know what you consider to be good/bad action, but I find mine very comfortable to play. If you're giving up this easily, there's something else going on here.

A little late to the party but that's ok. Good things to think about in the future.

Oh, I got it set up the way I like it, finally, but it took a lot of work, finally dis-assembling the bridge and re-assembling it to a reasonable baseline from which to start. Couldn't touch the grounding problem without violating the warranty. But I took it back and got a Jazzmaster Classic Player instead of the Blacktop and that was definitely the right move. The BT promised to be nothing but aggravation, and the CP's only problem was they forgot to send the trem rod. Took all of 20 minutes to set the intonation, and adjust the trem so I could lock it down. I'm delighted with the CP and am amazed at the range of tone options from 2 pickups and no coil taps.

I'd have the old classic style Jazz and Jag and wouldn't even consider one of the new H/H models. As touchy as the old stlyle bridges and tailpieces were they were configured much better than the new ones.As far as I'm concerned the old single coil sound is what made them Jazzmasters and Jaguars-give me the oldtime spank and sparkle any day.

Don't the blacktops have TOMs? You must have a faulty bridge then. As pointed out, the CPs solve most of these, or a regular JM with a Mustang bridge and/or Buzzstop.

$1000 on a CP? I got mine from GC for $700, new. Had the BT two days, didn't like it. Brought it back, traded it against the CP, which they cut $100 off of the regular "discount price" and now I'm much happier.

I don't know if the CP's fits the BT. It should do better if it does.

Or you could just spend $200 on a Mystery Bridge. They are supposed to solve all the Jazzmaster/Jaguar bridge problems.
