I always liked the look of these, never had a chance to play one or even hear one...how does it feel, and what is the tone like?

Thanks and nice looking guitars so far...

I just love these Coronados, they're beauties.Attention Fender:Please reissue these beauties so we Fenderphiles can have an alternative to the Gibson hollow body electrics.

The Coronados were designed by Roger Roßmeisl.

Roger was also responsible for the Thinline Telecaster, which officially debuted in 1968.

The Coronado XII sported the infamous Electric XII "hockey-stick" headstock.

Well, the tone is very much fender. Very clean, and in my opinion very versatile. On the neck you could have sometimes a very strat tone will the bridge does remind me of my tele, but with that difference that you have a lot less less sustain 9which make of course sense). The coronado is together with my loyal avri 52 my two main guitars.

the feel of it is excellent. It is a beautifull crafted instrument and you could see that the people who made this instrument put a lot of love into it. the details are very impressive, the neck is very much strat a like

it does feel a bit light at moments especially when switching with your tele.

I am still surprised (and actually I like it) that you can pick up one for the price of a std american strat. And if I had to chose between a recent strat or a coronado I wouldnt think twice. I am actually already looking for a back up coronado :)

Perhaps the most eye-catching Coronados are by far the Wildwood models.

I never seen a Strat, Tele, Precision or Jazz finished in these colours.

Fender could do no wrong in reissuing the Coronado and the Starcaster that way they would have direct competition for the single coil and humbucking Gibson hollowbodies.

for one thing, yes absolutely. I love my coronado and like her as much as my other hollow bodies. A very unique sound, but i dont see it happen: These guitars were very expensive to built, was even the most expensive guitar of fender at that moment (and if not the most expensive then one of the most expensive guitars) and it would be a risk

Fender Coronado I - Prototype???
I acquired this Fender Coronado I guitar back in the early 1990’s when I lived in Anaheim California. I got it as payment from someone who owed me money. I really didn't know what Fender model it was, so I called Fender and spoke to a technician who could not tell me what model it was from my description. Since I was living close to the Fender factory, I asked if I could bring it by for him to look at it. He said sure. When I arrived, I met the young technician I spoke with on the phone and showed him the guitar, he could not tell me the model after looking at it. He told me to hang and he would get a more senior tech to come check it out. About 6 older men came into the lobby and checked out the guitar and very interested in it but they could not tell me the exact model of the guitar either. The best they could tell me was that it probably was a prototype of the first Coronado I guitar as it never had a pick guard and the single pickup was not the same as the production Coronado I. Also the tail piece was different and the sunburst finish was never varnished. Anyway, I thought I would share this picture of the guitar with this group. If anyone wants additional information or pictures of the guitar, just email me.

+1 Very interesting. Seems like it would have a jazzy tone with just the one pickup at the neck. Very much like a Gibson as that was the obvious target. Thanks for posting the pic and story.
