Did Fender offer natural finishes in the 60's for these guitars if so when did they introduce these?

Through the '60s the only colors I recollect were Dakota Red and Olympic White. The '50s version came initially in Desert Sand and (briefly) in a dingy two-color sunburst. I don't ever remember this guitar in a natural finish since the body was made of poplar, which is slightly greenish and has a relatively unremarkable grain.

...although it does seem that (perhaps because these were low-buck student guitars with single coils at a time when everybody played 12-pound LPs with fat, distorted humbuckers?), during the 1970s about 84% of all Duo-Sonics were stripped (badly) down to bare wood and then oil stained (even worsely) in all sorts of shades of shit-brindle brown...

Ebay's filled with these kustoms, and they remind me of waiting at the border crossing at TJ--you know those brown Last Supper plaster placques that the adults flog while the kids are selling $1 gum?

Don't get me thinking too much about where the brown coloring on THOSE comes from.

Thanks.

LMFAO!

They sell those same "artifacts" on the other side of the frontier in Nogales.

Yep, no natural finishes at the time. If you're looking at one its price would be right around half of an original, if that.

Here's my dingy(:P) burst model:

Sweeeeett!!!

I've never thought of the maroonburst as a "dingy" finish, by any means. It remains unique and distinct, 50 years after it was first used...

Oh, wait--my office lights just went out.

Now it's "dingy".

Good thing I can touck tope/
