Just got my 51 (solid black) from Thomann today.
There was no manual with it, can someone explain in a few words what the control knobs do ? I am use to a US strat.

Thanks
Marc

hey ok so i've never had a 51 but from what i hear one knob is a master volume and the other knob is a pickup blend knob (kinda like a pickup selector switch but in the form of a knob where you could control how much of each pickup you want) and i dunno which knob it is but you could pull one of the knobs up to split the humbucker turning it into a single coil... hope this helps i'm not solid on the second knob idea but i'm sure it does pickup selection

Looks like that yes, been playing around a little now with and cam to that conclusion.
Pull the 1st knob splits the humbucker and with the second you have 3 positions.
Normal position idem. Don't know 4 sure yet. But will try to find it out.

However I would like a manual.

Thanks for advising.

Been playing it now for a little, the hissing is horrible.
I have tried multiple amps and cables but this one defenitely has a major problem.

If I grab the plug it's silent, looks like the plug hole does not lock the plug enough to cancel hissing.

Besides the noise I like the guitar very much, very well playable and good setup.
Will check with the dealer tomorrow.

dude sounds to me like you have a grounding issue... take it to a shop to have everything grounded again shouldn't make any noise... i've been meaning to do that to my mim strat for a while now

Sadly I had to send it back because the noise was caused by a defect inside the guitar.
If I turned the guitar around I could hear something inside loose.
Most likely this has come off during shipment.
Excellent great service from Thomann.de regarding this issue.

Will have it back in a few days. (or another)

Rats. I was just in a store trying out the pawnshop mustang, and the tone is absolutely stellar. I was stoked and ready to buy it.

-But- Same noise issue. I initially thought it was just a grounding issue, so the guitar tech and I took the guitar apart, right down to removing the bridge to make sure the ground wire was making contact.

As soon as you touch any metal on the guitar (strings, bridge, pot cover) the buzzing stops. Which leads me to believe it may be a shielding issue. They're too new to have many comments about this online unfortunately too.

There were no other PS Mustangs in the store to compare, so I'm going to try another music store this evening, hopefully the two mentioned on this thread were just duds, because I still really want one, but for $800, don't think I should have to do the shielding myself.

Anyone else run into this?

I got it this past week but a tornado hit so I haven't been able to plug in 'till this weekend.

So far I dig it. It looks pretty, probably my nicest looking guitar I own. The Lake Placid Blue is a great color and the green pick-guard actually looks good with this guitar. The pick-ups sounds really good, you can get that Nirvana sound right out the box unlike my '65 RI that I had to mod to get a heavier sound. The action was nice and fast right out of the box arrived pretty flat but with not a bad buzz. The intonation and pickup height I adjusted but wasn't too bad out of the box. My only real complaint I have is that the tuners on the neck seem to be loose. After tightening them they are still a little loose. The frets looks good and the nut was cut great unlike my Blacktop I bought a couple months ago. Overall I will give it a 8/10.

I will have to play it for several months to get a real feel for it. I will either keep this or my modded '65 RI.

That sounds about right. I "test drove" one Sunday and you can get a lot of different sounds out of it, but none as rich as an SG or Jazzmaster BT. Almost tempted!

Little Update:

I returned the first one because of the loose/stripped tuning pegs and got it exchanged for another one. The second one was great but I had a local shop install I new nut on it as the nut slot was too wide for the B string resulting in a ting sound on the bends. I notice the shielding could be better though. This one has a nicer rosewood board than the first. I would suggest searching for one before you buy it because they seem to very in quality.

I have to agree with you on the Blacktop, I had a Jaguar and returned it. Even at 15% off I expected a better sound than what the Jag BT could deliver. I want a Lake Placid Blue Mustang Special. :D
