I have been trying to pick up a Toronado since I first saw one. The Mustang is my favorite of the Pawn Shop series, I also like the Jaguar of the Blacktop series. Fender, Please bring out another Toronado!

I think they should have come out with a "Chumleecaster" in honor of it being a Pawn Shop series...Would rather see another reasonably-priced USA model...or the original Starcaster or a Strat Plus reissue.

I think this is a pretty neat line. Nothing really moves me enough to make a purchase, but definitely maybe in the future we'll see a Toronado, Jagmaster, or whatever... either way, it's been fun in the past year watching Fender mix it up a little. I'm going to be buying the Squier VM tele custom II with p90's this week, so maybe a Pawnshop Tele with p90's eventually? One can only dream I guess.

I love my Squier '51. I'm glad Fender finally decided to bring it out, and it's cool that it's MIJ, as is my Aerodyne. Although I consider my heavyweight ash Sienna Sunburst Am. Std. SSH with S-1 switching able to leap tonal heavens in a single bound, I'm very interested to hear the '51! I have no idea though, why Fender doesn't acknowledge the very well received, reviewed, and the abruptly cancelled cult favorite Squier '51.

I put in my order this morning for a Pawn Shop Mustang in Lake Placid Blue. I love my Squier Duo-Sonic as my "couch guitar" (sittin' on the living room couch and noodling) for it's light weight and easy bending scale (and no trem). But I wanted a similar axe in LPB & a fully contoured body. I ordered a unfinished 'Stang body & neck from Warmoth but they've been sitting in a drawer. Then today I see the new PS Mustang and it's everything I wanted and more. I'll post a review when it comes in. Thanks, Fender...

My LPB Pawn Shop came in Monday via Musicians Friend. First thing you noice is the thing is light as a feather. With the same thin (and dimensionally smaller) body as the current reissue Mustang and no trem, it must be one of Fenders lightest ever. It's perfect for a "couch guitar", which is what I wanted. The fit and finish are pretty flawless...the fretwork is as good as the best Fender frets I've seen. The action is good right out of the box - thankfully, because the truss rod adjustment is unfortunately under the pickguard.

I didn't want a trem, so the fixed bridge is a big plus. The saddle height adjustment screws have sharp edges on top though, which are uncomfortable when you rest your hand on the bridge. As far as the pickups are concerned, the humbuckers sound fine to me, but sound thin in single coil mode - they could have left off the slide switches as far as I'm concerned.

The biggest problem I have with the guitar is something I've read about but have never had a problem with before - any contact I make with the pickguard below the pup area produces a crackling, hissing sound - which from what I gather is a static charge problem. When my fingers are slightly moist, there is no sound, but when they dry out, the crackling comes back. I haven't taken the pickguard off yet, but I'm wondering if there is a problem with the shilding under it (if there is any).

All that being said, I'm pleased with the guitar as it fills the requirements I had. To be honest though, I'm wondering why the series didn't come out as a Blacktop model with their pricing stucture. I have a Mexican Tele in LPB and it seems to be built just as well as this Japanese 'Stang. As when the Mustangs first came out, these little guitars are perfect for kids starting out, but the $800 price tag kills it for that purpose. I bought a Squier Duo-Sonic when they came out, and it's actually quite nice for a casual noodling axe, but the one bland color, poor bridge and no forearm contour limits its use for me and it's general appeal. This guitar for around $400, with a wide color choice would make a great quality first guitar.

that's squiers problem... not enough finishes... they did bring in the jazzmaster and jaguar though maybe now all of the models will get new finishes or maybe they'll start reissuing some old toys (cyclone) hint hint... personally i'd prefer new finishes

You nailed it... finishes.. I think thats the blacktop series' problem. but at this point I'd be ok with a squier mustang or even a cyclone! As long as I had more finish options!

lol i don't think they'd go far with a squier mustang the way they made the jag and jazzmaster... strat jacks suck on those guitars the bridge to me could be better too (judging estetically)... i'd love to see more finishes on the blacktops too
