So a guy who lives less than half an hour away from me is selling a '64 Duo-Sonic II. The only thing I'm not too sure about is whether this makes sense... Does anybody know if the Duo-Sonic II was ever Pre-CBS? There was a lot of change in the Duo-Sonic around that time and I think the 3rd Version of the Duo-Sonics (which would include the Duo-Sonic II) started around mid '64 and then CBS came in at the beginning of '65...

Basically, is it possible for a Duo-Sonic II to be pre-CBS?

Thanks in advance

Yes, the Duo-Sonic II did indeed first appear in 1964.

The Duo-Sonic II made its first appearance in '65 according to Vintage Guitar Magazine Price Guide. It is remotely possible that it is pre CBS as there were "L"Series Fenders still being made up until Aug. '65.If the serial number starts with an L it is considered pre CBS but if it has the large F on the neck plate it is CBS.

Man, thanks for saying that. I've run into a few "Fender" people who don't understand this concept.

I wouldn't consider the VG price guide for hand and fast info on any guitar.

It's always loaded with errors.
