about 15 years ago I was hanging aroung Airline Vintage Guitar, as I usually did nearly every day. I was fooling around with this really cool 70's Mustang that Dan Kiblinger just recently aquired, bright orange w/ black pick guard and 2 humbuckers squeezed in there with a slant. man, talk about fun. kicking myself for not buying it at $500. Fender should have done a Mustang in the blacktop series rather than a Jaguar, since there are some dual HB jags out there. What do ya'll think?

dude we already talked about this idea but keep talking... maybe fender will hear our prayers ;) ... my idea on the guitar was to give it a kurt cobain sh pickup configuration with a 3 way switch and competition stripe but that's just my opinion

hey ralfcaetano,
on that particular day in question, Dan (shop's owner) wasn't in that day, it was some dude thinking he was too cool for school, and commented that I only liked the Mustang because Kurt Cobain used them. Right then, I put the guitar back on the wall, scolded him, and vowed never to buy from him. Dan had a good laugh about it though considering that he missed out on $500 that day. I don't like guitars just because somebody famous uses them.

and thejakeludwig,
I agree, we need more Mustangs with some cool options to boot!

rock and roll!

i don't like the mustang cause of kurt cobain (he is kind of a big influence to me though) i just find the pickup combination useful... although i would also agree with an hh configuration i wrote that in the last blacktop mustang thread... dude i don't judge a guitar by who uses them or else i wouldn't be in love with the jazzmaster like i am (i'm not a big sonic youth fan) i just love the guitar (though i'm still a strat freak and i do love the jazzmaster and firebird guitars more)
check out the blacktop mustang thread and you'll see that i had the same opinion as you on the lack of new mustang models

I think it would be cool for Fender to run different models yearly under the blacktop name, or at least different colors. The Mustang would be cool. I like the Toronado myself but I sure hope they do keep this line. Praying for different colors though because I'd like a white, or sunburst Jag I can put some Phat Cat p90's in.

i'd like to see them try out some of the old finishes (which are now custom shop finishes)

i really like their silver finish... but lets face it fender isn't what it used to be in terms of finishes personally i'd like to see sherwood green graffitti yellow and orange back on the menu (probably have candy green to stop being an eric clapton exclusive)

you say that now, but once you experience the hell of playing aggressive punk with a trem equipped guitar you'll be swearing revenge against the $@! who invented them....

the strat and jazzmaster have whammys...or vibratos, or tremolos...whatever these kids call them nowadays. as for playing aggressively and cursing the inventor (Mr. Leo), if your trem equipped guitar is set up well, you can play as hard as you please. My number 1 is a 62' reissue jazzmaster and number 2 is a parts strat, and after a proper set up I have no issues with the things staying in tune. that is until those unfortunate day when a string happens to break, in that cas, I just whip out the next axe!

rock it man,

I have no idea where the name "BlackTop" came from for Fender but I like these guitars.
Except the Jag only comes in black or silver. They should all have at least one wood-grain model.

I've promised my BH, though that I'm not buying another guitar for two years, unless, of course, I win the lottery or trade one in.

I agree about the finishes. I think they should all have at least ONE wood grain model. Maybe even a blonde finish. Imagine if Fender ran these available in all colors at how much they would sell. I'd buy 2 or 3 myself. The price is just right.
