Hi

I'm trying to find out the value of a Jaguar, it seems to be in mint condition. It is the sunburst. I have the serial number if that would help.

These guitars where my fathers and I'd like to get the proper worth, I know nothing about guitars . I'm affraid to get taken by someone.

Maybe someone can tell me ow to find out what they are worth.

Also a 1948-1949 Steel guitar, with the serial number. I would like the value of both. I live in Ottawa Canada .

Thank you

Watch eBay, and see what these items are actually selling for. The books may say it's a $4000 guitar, but if no one is paying that price, then it really isn't worth that much. If it is a real 1962 vintage Jaguar, and it is all original and complete without any issues.....it could be around the $4500 range, +/- a few hundred dollars either way. The current trend on eBay seems to be from $4000 to $6000. You will have to find a real collector though, cause if you just advertise it in the local paper you will have all sorts of broke-@$$ people coming over just to play your vintage guitar, knowing full well they don't have the dough to buy it! Go to all the local music shoppes, ask the owners who the collectors in the area are. And let them put the word out for you ;) You are far more likely to get a call from an interested buyer this way (who has the cash) than if you even let the music shop do a consignment, where they charge you a percentage for the final sale price to sell your guitar in their shop (not to mention every grubby handed goofball in the country will be beating around on your axe ) ........ I wish you the best of luck!!!! Sell it only to a good home, please!

4500+- a few hundred is completely not right since its a sunburst.

Currently Custom Colors are going 3500-4200. Sunburst is not a custom color but rather the default color.

Currently I would guess a mint condition Sunburst is going in the 2500-3300 range. The higher value being that you have the original accessories like strap and manual and so on
On a bad day in auction I imagine it could go in the the 2100-2500 without the accessories.

Hi Roxane welcome to the forum, there's always room for another Canuck. If your Jaguar is a sunburst it could be worth up to $3,800 and for a rare colour with a matching headstock up to$7,500 with common colours somewhere in between. You didn't give the model of steel guitar or whether or not it's a single or multi neck model so I can only give you a ballpark figure.A Champion Lap Steel would be worth up to $900,A Deluxe Steel up to $1,150.A Dual 8 Professional up to $1,350,A K&F Steel up to $1,900,An Organ Button Steel up to$1,000,A Princeton Steel up to $1,050 and that's about all the info I can give you without knowing the exact model. The prices quoted are for absolute mint instruments with the original cases.
