An HSS Strat or HH Jaguar would probably more what you are looking for.

I would suggest you look at the new Strat blacktop.
It's well made and at a nice price.

Then I would upgrade the pick ups to a Parallel Axis Trembucker™ Distortion PATB-2 for the neck and a Dimebucker™ SH-13 for the bridge.

This should cover the bases for what you looking to play.

If you have another choice it would be up to you of course, as always YMMV.

There is a few options, you could get a Strat and put a Seymour Duncan Hotrail in the bridge like I did with mine, get either a Jim Root Tele or Strat, a HSS Fat Strat, a Floyd Rose Strat, The Dave Murray Strat, the Jag HH, the new Blacktop Series which consists of a Strat, Tele, JM and a Jag or search ebay for the Heavy Metal Strat and the Flathead Tele.

Hope this helps you out a bit.

Do you have access to a wood router?

Yeah the Seymour Duncan Hot Rails for Tele and Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder for Tele. There single coil sized humbuckers (the Quarter Pounder is a stacked single coil but acts like a humbucker) so ther is no routing necessary on the body and you could easily change back if you wanted to sell your guitar. Check them out on youtube. I hope this helps aswell.

Sorry I could only find videos of the Hot Rails.

HM Strats were desinged with teh metawlz in mind. just searching craigslist or e-bay will bring a few up, but be prepared to shell about $600 for one. i usually see them go from $400 and up. there was one on e-bay(may still be up) that was going for 200 because the back was sprayed another color. There is also the Fender Prodigy(I & II). the I's came with a 2 point synch hard tail while the II's got the Kahler Spyder trem. price wise they go about the same as a HM. Squier also sported their HMs, and i seen one with the 2 point hard tail. as far as pickups, its a vast sea! DiMarzio made the H1/H2/Super 3(whichever name you want to search for) pickups for the HMs.
