There's nothing wrong with modding a guitar you plan to keep forever! The problem comes when and if the time comes to sell it. Things like pickup changes hurt the value just a little, things like a paint bomb job with a spray can and a sharpie marker attack will hurt the value A LOT , LOL. :) When modding, I prefer to change things that can be changed back.....when it comes to drilling extra holes, making holes bigger, and such, I just rather buy the guitar that is already pretty close to what I want....such as, if I want a Floyd Rose tremolo, why not start with a guitar equipped with one already....then change pickups or whatever? Good luck on your project though, I'm sure it will look real punk when you are done! :D

I going to make a super awesome punk rock guitar. I'm buying a fender blacktop Jaguar: (1) because I already own a black Jaguar HH special (made in japan) and I love the feel of a Jaguar. (2) because the Blacktop series is pretty cheap because I wouldn't spray paint an expensive guitar. I want the guitar to be white or rather I'm going to make it white! lol. I'm buying one that is silver because white spray paint will cover it up nicely. I'm putting vintage Univox hi flier pickups in it. (like Kurt Cobain from Nirvana played) and finally when it is painted white and put together I'm going to get a sharpie marker, write cool song lyrics all over it and autograph it (That should make it worth a couple bucks more when I'm famous jk jk haha) Not to sound rude to anyone and not that any of your opinions matter to my project decision, but I would like to hear what some of you ppl think! Is it a stupid idea or does it actually sound pretty rad? -Jake. Peace out pickers and keep rockin'.

Yes Jake, I remember when I had my first Beer....(Y/K)

It all sounds like such a great Idea at the time, then you kick yourself later on.
I would say get the silver one and keep it silver.
Leave the sticker off it and look, you will have a great looking guitar in a sea of Kurt wanna bees which will make you stand out from them, and isn't that the point of Punk, to be different and stand apart from the crowd?

Just a thought.

Hey you own it so I say, do as you wish with you guitar. I'm just not sure the paint is going to stick very well. My experience with spray paint (although never on a guitar) is that it doesn't stick to smooth surfaces for long. Check into it before you do it. There may be another kind of paint or you might have to rough it up with sandpaper first. I DON'T know, so don't just go on my suggestion, but I would hate to see you put a lot of time in it and then have your art flake off in a couple of weeks.

Please post a pic when you are done. I'd like to see it.

a friend of mine stripped up an old 70's guitars paint and sprayed it with a cheap spray kinda doubted him but with a clear coat it actually looks kinda sweet there is only a small problem cause it will get a small orange peel effect on the finish but it turned out to be a pretty good way to paint a guitar altough the wood was kinda worn out so i dont garantee that it'll work with your jag... so i guess i stand corrected... now i say try it out if you really want to customise it it sounds like a great idea
