allow me to weigh in,
I use GHS tnt 10-56, and I particularly love the vintage style split tuners that came with my MIJ Jazzmaster reissue and the strings fit just fine. However, when I built my strat, my low-E (56) wouldn't fit through the hole on the vintage 70's style split tuner, so I just drilled it out a bit; and BAM! worked like a charm. so there may be a bit of work to do, but I suggest doing so to only match YOUR preference of string guage. I don't believe that guitars are made to accept a specific guage of string, I believe guitars are made to do wha I tell them to do. now the dynamics of the guitar and your comfort are definitly affected by the guage, but if your guitar tries to resist, show that sucker who's boss!

rock it like a rocket,
bob-o

I have always used 8-38 D'Addario strings on my old '65 Mustang and it sounds just as full as one with 10s or 11s on it.Any compromises in tone can be eradicated by tweaking your tone controls, after all Billy Gibbons,Tony Iommi and Jimi Hendrix used super light gauge strings yet each one of them always got monster tone.I don't buy into that thin string = thin tone statement for one second as I have disproven it time and time again.

I know it is off-topic.....but I have to throw my 2 cents in on the string gauge thing......String gauge is personal preference for feel and your overall setup...BUT, I swear by the thicker strings give you fuller sound! More vibrating mass, well, vibrates MORE mass than less vibrating mass. LOL. I also like to use heavier strings on my short scale guitars because it helps make them feel a little more like my 25.5" Strats, so I don't have to adjust my pick attack so much to prevent buzz. Of the many things in the world of guitar that is myth, string gauge is by no means a myth! Heavier strings will really bring the "balls" out in your guitar ;)
