Hey guys,

I got tired of the modern look of my MIJ Jaguar HH, and wanted to convert it to a more vintage style. So far I have installed the tremolo, which required drilling a hole in the body to accommodate the spring and plate connected to the tremolo tailpiece

Mods on their way:
-66 Vintage RI neck pickup
-Classic player single coil Bridge pickup
-Mint green pickguard

I need some advice on installing the new single coil pickups though. I have never done this, but I am assuming all I need to do is cut the humbuckers wire and solder the single coil wire into the existing line. Is it really that easy or will I need to change the pots etc?

Thanks for the help!

Welcome.

There is no need to change the existing pots, etc. However, you'd do better to find the end point of where each humbucker is wired into the circuit, unsolder each from there and then solder your single coils each to these corresponding points accordingly; very easy.

Wow. That looks like a great job and I love the end results.

Boring out all of that wood to fit the trem plate was a bold move indeed. Did you tidy the new cavity, or is there a multitude of sins hiding under there?!! How does the trem perform? The Jaguar trem system was always troublesome at best..

Why fit a new scratchplate? What you have there already looks damn fine to me.

As for new pickup splicing into the existing wiring, you shold maybe re-think. Single coils are usually accompanied by 250k pots - I'm guessing that the humbuckers on that Jag had 500k pots as standard. Check what they say on the pot casing.

Thank you so much!

The hole that I bored out is actually pretty clean and smooth. I locked the tremolo because I have had nothing but problems with them in the past.

Here is the end result, just finished installing the single coils and new mint green pickguard!

Excellent - really looks like a Jag now. Although I did like the silver humbucker look.

Sound as you hoped?

Did you mount the new single coils directly to the new SS pickguard (just like the HB's were mounted to the HH pickguard)? Did you need to add any wood inside of the humbucker cavities?

hey
i have an speical hh aswell, and was planning on installing the jaguar/jazzmaster tremolo aswell. I was wondering if you had any problems with the hardtail holes or was everything okay.
Could you post some pictures of the cavity please

You did a good job! Looks like that it came from the factory that way.
