Does anyone know if any of these escaped the factory? It would really cool to see one of these in person.

AFAIK they all received the "bandsaw burial". Nothing left but photos to pique our interest.

I did not know Fender had a Marauder.

Great info.

Gibson had a marauder with flying V headstock bolt on neck and single coils.

Yeah the Gibson Marauder is a seriously cool guitar. But the Fender's Marauder is just way too hilarious looking with all the ridiculous switches all over the place. I'd love to get my hands on a replica at the very least. I already own a Jag (though the bridge is possibly the worst piece of hardware I've ever been forced to go head to head with), so guitars with too many controls are way up my alley.

If you are playing rock, I also suggest Les Paul (have played them in the past). Very smooth and lightweight for moving around with if you plan to do stage work. I don't like it's sound as much, it's too gritty for me.

FYI only 8 prototypes of the revised Marauder were made in 1966, with 4 of them having slanted frets.

The revised Marauder had exposed pickups and a host of complex switches. George Fullerton said there was a dispute between CBS and "Porky" about the hidden pickup patent a couple of months before the Marauder project being definitely abandoned.

There was a thread about these a while back on one of the Custom Shop threads.

Mike Eldred response was to the effect of "we can make you one - show us the money"

A copy was built by a fellow in the UK. It's sweet, and it works.

It's currently in a friend's shop here in SF, getting a setup and some shielding. Looks totally pro.

The Modern Player version is a totally different beast compared to the mid-1960's original.

I was able to spend a few minutes doodling around with the modern-player maurader.
I really like the way the neck felt, the chinese did this one right. I didn't get a chance to
plug her up, but I am anxious to see wht this triple bucker is all about. I'm not too keen
on the blade switch or the stiff pots. But, I would really like to get one, they are comfy
as hell.

Wait a sec, where are the pickups? They're hidden, but where?

Unique pickups based on the patent for the original MK I Marauder under the pickguard.
