Can anyone help me out here? I have a new fender Squire, black strat, good player, sounds great, but no serial number, no place of mfg, and although it appears to be an Affinity, it only has "Squire Strat by Fender on the Head Stock". Exactly like the ones at my dealer. This is Not a waterside or a decal, the wood has not been sanded or refinished. We agree it is the original satin finish. The lettering appears to match the black painted lettering that is on an identical one at my fender reseller. He thinks this one "just got away" from the plant without numbering etc... All of the parts seem to be original Fender Squire. Is this common? Thanks.

 As of late , I think Fender as lost track with their serial numbers. KI bought a Fender Telecoustic about 7 months ago , and wanted to date the guitar was made. I sent in the serial number to Scottsdale Az. They said it wasnt a Fender serial number. Then they said it was a day later , but strange because it had no letters in front of the digits, they said there should have been two letter C. The guitar was made in China. Figures the serial number would be missinf letters, made in China. :?: :?:

Hello and Thanks for your post. They must be asleep at the wheel at Fender Production lines. Lol.. But yes for sure, this is Not a "knock-off" neck, it is a genuine Squire, just no decal on the back and no serial number or place of mfg on it anywhere. We removed the neck to look at the heel of it and the neck pocket but no markings there either. Everything still measures same as my other squire, just this one must have been made on the night shift. Lol..
Thanks again I appreciate your info.

You said the guitar is new......did you buy it brand new from a reputable shop? Could be stolen........just saying.......no serial number and all...LOL :D Probably a 2009-2010 model if you bought it new (also since they are not terribly expensive so don't sit in stores too long)

Hello Steve:
Yeah, from a reptuable dealer for sure. And you are right, its a hundred dollar instrument at best. I guess that's my problem, I can't really see someone doing a number wipe out as professional as this one would be on just a cheap guitar. Plays great, but dollar wise, not worth the effort. I've since had several guys who do wood refinishing say that they don't believe it has ever been sanded and restained. Local Fender Dealer says its original, and must just a goof by the guys in China and let it out the door without a serial number and place of mfg mark on the back of the headstock.

Dealers tell me since it came from China (most likely) that probably there are lots out there without numbers that go unnoticed as they sell the thing in a sealed box and the actual dealer never sees it anyway unless someone brings it in.

Thanks for your post, I appreciate your thoughts on it.
Darrell
