My daughter in law is trying to sell her vintage guitar. I've tried to talk her out of it because it is the most beautiful guitar I've ever held. I checked the serial number and it dates it to approx 1960.

Is there some type of blue book for these guitars?

Thanks

It might have a weird neckplate if it dates to 1960 because Jaguars were not introduced until 1962

Except thats not a display of the current street price. The current price is more likely reflected by sold ended auctions on eBay.
He could price it at whatever it doesnt matter if it doesnt sell.

It also depends on the amount of mods and the condition of the guitar

I've read estimated values of 1962-to-1975 Jaguars in EC to be in the range of $2,100 to $7,500--color being the big cost factor (rare colors, amount of color fading). Sunburst being the least valuable.

Here's a good book for guitar and amp values. But keep in mind, no pawn shop or music store would pay these prices, maybe 25% to 1/2...maybe.

Thank you all for your replies. I appreciate it. I have learned a lot about these guitars in just a short time. They really are beautiful. The year was an issue that came up because the original owner said it was a '63, but the serial number reveals some different info. Perhaps the neck plate was manufactured near the end of '61???

The color is blue and it has a couple of chips but mostly some shallow vertical cracks in the paint. We will take your advice and research ebay.

Thanks again,
Peace

If the Jaguar is in fact a '62-which is the oldest it could possibly be-it would be worth anywhere from$3,100-$7,500 depending on the colour with sunburst as the lowest and custom colours at the high end.Of course the guitar would have to be mint or excellent condition with all the original parts and no sign of refinishing or alterations of any kind. A guitar that has been altered in any way from original will have its value drop faster than a skydiving blue whale.

Thanks,

I wouldn't want to be in the shadow of that skydiving blue whale. :)

This guitar is not in mint condition. It's in good condition. It has some signs of wear because it was used and traveled around with the original owner. I know that doesn't bode well for the collectors but on a personal level I like to see signs of use. I hope whomever buys this guitar plays it and loves it like we do. I hope it doesn't just hang on the wall.. although I think it is pretty enough. It's a sculpture ... to me anyway.

Hi Accunder, normal honest play wear does affect price but not to the extent that scratches, dents and dings caused by carelessness and neglect do.If the guitar is sunburst it could still be worth from $3,000-$3,500.
