+1!

Like some shlubb trying to sell a used Rory Gallagher Signature Strat and describing it as "mint condition".

It's about as much of a crime as paying extra for pre-ripped jeans.

A friend's daughter and her gang of friends down in Texas hired a van to carry their Harleys up to Sturgis. The van stopped outside of town, the crew unloaded their bikes, put on their "road-worn" leathers, and rode into Sturgis like they had just come all the way from Texas on their bikes.

It's like something out of a sit-com.

I WANT my instrument to look as if I actually take care of it.

I never once purchased pre-worn or pre-bleached jeans, and never, ever bleached them. They can wear out by their own d*** selves....and they do!

Perfect example.
It would be more, if the bikers where bragging about how this way of biking is supposedly better than traveling all the way on your own. 8)

I don't get the point. I take extra care to ensure my guitars don't have damage. Why would I pay extra for faux damage? The word "poseur" does indeed come to mind.

I personally don't like them. They aren't true vintage and it doesn't capture the look well enough. But, if I was offered one for free, I'd take it.

I had to settle for junk the 1st 25yrs of my life. I won't have anything that looks that way now.

Personally, I love the look of a guitar that has a few miles on it. As my late Father used to say; "each ding and nick has a story behind it". However, if these dings and worn places are done in the factory then, what's the point? An old well worn instrument has character, a soul if you will. Distressing a new instrument pretty much robs the “magic”. I mean, when someone asks “how’d this happen?” wouldn’t you rather tell about the time you had to deflect flying beer bottles with your Stratocaster rather than, “oh it came from the factory like that”.
Here are a couple pictures of my 1986 Squier Stratocaster. She’s not been used as a bottle shield as yet but she’s got quite a few miles on her. Some nice neck wear. I’m gonna have to replace the bridge saddles before much longer as they are pretty corroded. As you might be able to tell, the neck and middle PU covers are yellowed from the years. You just can’t duplicate the character that can only come with age.
Just my two cents worth.

First up ... I like Fenders. I own 3 (not including 4 Ovations). But I don't like relic'ed or Road Worn guitars. That means ARTIFICIALLY aged guitars. To me taking a new, beautiful guitar and destroying its finish for the sake of false mojo is a crime. Guitars that have seen YEARS of hard labor are a different matter. They have earned their battle scars. But thats me.

I see why Fender does it. Imagine how many B-stock guitars (ones that can't pass final visual inpection) there are. Now, you make them Road Worn and you can charge MORE for them instead of selling them at discounted prices. Thats called turning crap into gold... and how many of you bought those B-stocks for more than their worth?

FWIW: Martin puts any factory flawed guitar (no matter how minor) thru a wood chipper! Now thats quality control!

Nope, Fender RW are finished in nitrocellulose, which makes the aging easier. Non RW are polyurethane. Which means that RW are a production choice, not a backup strategy for factory seconds.

No, but I wish they gave us the option of worn vs pristene condition. I used to absolutely hate the road worn guitars until I purchased a Wayne Kramer strat. Now that I own one and can touch and see the effort put into creating that road worn look I appreciate it. However, I still have a greater appreciation for the artist road worn models, that attempt to replicate the artist's guitar, than the the standard road worn guitar. The higher price is easily justified when you consider the additional time required to get that used and abused look.

My Telecaster already has a couple dings and a crack in the finish. It's all from the buttons on my shirts, the rivets in my jeans, and the belt buckles on the belts that hold up the jeans. I like this type of wear.
