I find that the first generation Cyclone is becoming harder and harder to find these days. It took me a solid 3 months before I found mine. Fortunately I bought it from a guy that bought it directly from Fender. I believe I paid about 350USD for it. I believe he originally wanted 400. Its been a few years. The cool thing was he had all the paperwork for it, even the receipt from Fender.

WHICH cyclone though....

and i'm not sure 'short scale' applies, they were 24.75" (gibson scale). 'short' typically implies 24" or shorter... but i'm splitting hairs, 24.75 is shorter than most fenders :P
as for problems... had mine (cyclone 2) 9 or 10 years, only the tuners have needed replacement yet. as if i'd stick with Kluson when there was a set of gotoh locking tuners staring at me.
the tremolo... no problems for me, but i also jammed it full with all 5 springs, cause i very rarely use the thing.
the weight might be a bit much. it's a deeper body and heavier wood than the mustang it's modeled after, but i'm not sure "back problems" can be listed in among faults specific to the guitar :P
for pricing on this one, i'd say it's seller's market. the HH and HS models were apparently produced for a much longer time and in far higher numbers than the II with jag pickups. not to mention, squier's also made the HH and H/S versions at some point in history. they STILL make the H/s even, runs about $200.
any Fender cyclone will be MIM, as far as i know...
$500 sounds right for the HH and H/S, i believe...but anybody selling the II for less than $750 has either severely damaged/modified it, or just doesn't appreciate what they have. i bought mine brand new for right around $600, but that was when it was new and demand for the thing seems to have skyrocketted, relative to when it was new. anybody else who has it and likes it as much as i do... you'd be at the mercy of how much they're willing to let it go for, simply because it's so hard to find (i've never seen one anywhere except in my hands). it's not like you can just turn them down "cause this guy down the street is selling his for less!". there IS no guy down the street with a competitive price :P
