Both Fender and Gibson had been toying around with putting low cost, low priced guitars in high traffic, big box stores like Costco, Best Buy and Wal-Mart. Fender asked me to take a survey as to what I thought of them putting Fender products in stores like these and I told them it was a BAD idea. At one time, Costco sold a Strat-like guitar called a Starcaster, but I think it is no longer offered . . . at least I hope not. In any case, it was not your father's Starcaster.

To tell you the truth, I don't recall ever sending you a e-mail on that.
But then again, I might have. And Costco, Best Buy, & Wal-Mart are'nt the only retail stores you can find a Starcaster. Target & Sam's Club has them too.

No, jr4dejr, you didn't send me anything directly. I was just offering what I knew about the product. I hope you enjoy your guitar.

Don't ask me why, but I have alot of fun playing cheap guitars. Hand me a 100 dollar guitar and leave me alone and I'm in heaven. I've seen the starcasters in best buy recently. I was excited just to see a guitar there. They have those first act guitars too. I love those things. In a perfect world every kid who wanted to learn to play guitar would have the finest instrument made to play and learn on.

Bought this for my son yesterday. Sound ok, amp ok, lots of extras. Made in China, but he's 9, and just happy to have a Strat like daddy.

Can't get the whole hyperlink to work properly. Cut and paste.

Thanks for adding the pic. It's not a bad little strat. He'll learn the basics and when he can afford a Mexi he can upgrade.

I agree. Isn't the Squier brand name enough? Do we really need cheaper cheap guitars? Fender will tarnish its brand image with Wal Mart guitars!

Nah, people will still buy Fender because the name is more popular, a la Gibson vs. epiphone. I like epis better, but no one makes a Firebird like Gibson. So anyway don't worry about it, Fender's just tryin ta make more money.

That would make a fun Factory Special Run reissue if they fixed all the bugs.
