My daughter received a Fender Starcaster acoustic guitar this past Christmas. It's strung for right handed, and lo and behold, she picked it up like a southpaw.

Can I get this model restrung for a lefty without getting too pricey? The strings themselves seem easy enough, but the bridge would have to be reversed. And given this is a beginner model already, I don't even know if that's possible.

Any help appreciated.

If you have a left hand nut made for the guitar, swapping the strings will be easy enough, but like you guessed, the bridge saddle will be an issue. The intonation will be off, but it won't be too bad in the first few frets, so she can learn chords and stuff. It might just be better to either train her to play right handed, or trade the guitar for a lefty.

do your daughter a favor, have her learn righty. it may be 10x harder for her at first, but shell get used to it. the reason i say to do this is that theres a MUCH greater variety in instruments for right handed players, and lefty guitars tend to be harder to come buy and often more expensive

If your daughter is left handed, then you must absolutely 1000% positively encourage her to play left handed.

Sure, it will be a real challenge to find her an instrument. But playing music is a joy; don't make it a struggle!
