Well the J.Mascis Jazzmaster was released in august. It is a cij fender. Although it is made of basswood it is still an exceptional cij jazzmaster. They are carried by fender dealers, but you may have to custom order it.

The J Mascis Jazzmaster is crafted in Japan but its made for sale in the United States. There are a few others than I can think of. The Jaguar HH and the Mustang. You can order those anywhere. Like Guitar Center or Musicians Friend or anywhere else that sells Fender guitars.

By the way I just want to add something about how just because something is from Japan doesn't mean its bad. My Grandparents on my Fathers side came from Japan! A cheap guitar is a cheap guitar, doesn't matter where it came from.

Fender tends to be very quiet regarding where their guitars come from (they just don't publicize it), unless of course you have a USA model-and they always have been quiet in this regard. Many makers are! Sometimes you won't know where a guitar came from until you literally have it in your hands and see it with your own eyes.

I pulled out my old 1993 'full range' Fender catalog, which was when Fender Japan models were shipped in to the U.S. often, and LONG before there was a Fender Mexico, and did some counting.

There are 104 separate models listed (including some left hand models) and not counting the two steel guitars. There were no Squier models listed.

I could only identify 25 models that I could figure out with 95% certainty that were USA made, mostly reissues. Only 8 had either 'American' or 'U.S.' in the model title.

The origin of everything else wasn't listed.

The disappointing thing is that you literally don't know where it came from (then and now) until you have it in your hands. Most information is word of mouth, which isn't always accurate. So why does ANY company not want to publicize it? Fender isn't the only one guilty of this, it seems to be a industry standard.

Getting back on track, I LOVE my Japanese Fenders! And I'm always on the lookout for more good ones!

twangee,
The country of origin is encoded in the model numbers.

Over the years, they have added new digits, so that more than one set of digits indicates a certain country. Perhaps, we can gather some info from Forum Members and get the code down?

Here's a list of models and model numbers.

http://www.fender.com/support/diagrams/index.php

I checked some old Frontlines and came up with this list (as best as I could reckon):

US: 010, 011, 019 (basses), 015 (custom shop), 110
Mexico: 013, 113
Japan: 025, 027
Korea: 026

(Squiers have numbers in the 30s and I have no idea what countries they are from.)

Actually, anyone planning on importing a fender from Ishibashi is out of luck. fender US has officially cracked the whip and will no longer allow it.

Can't think of anyone who's happy about it.

Give it some time to cool off, then see what happens.

This summer will be 10 years since my first purchase from Ishibashi.
The internet is a wonderful thing.

Cheers.

If you guys are ever uncertain as to where a Fender is made, or have any other questions regarding anything Fender, then ask your local, friendly Fender dealer! :D

We're here to help!
