I guess it comes down to how much money you have ot spend, when i think of a jaguar, I always think the XK.

Just beautiful.

Now as to Mustangs, I like the older Shelby's.

Like this 1967 Gt-500.

Okay, let's get back to guitars now....

One drawback the Mustang does have is that the vibrato mechanism is touchy and needs some tinkering and setup to keep the guitar from going out of tune whereas the Jaguar's vibrato is much more stable.

I don't know about the Mustang vibrato, but I can vouch for the Jaguar tremolo being stable.

I am have the exact same issue, and like the same music. The Mustang appears to be lighter than the Jag, but the Jag looks rugged and beefed up.

I've never had any issues with the Mustang vibrato, and I appreciate its ability to do real subtle vibrato as well.

Despite the fact that I do not own a mustang OR a jaguar, I play both of them at least once weekly at my local guitar shop and I have to say, I am much more of a fan of the mustang. If you like smaller bodied lighter guitars (like myself), go for the mustang. The jaguar is seemingly heavier and larger, but I am only about 5'6, so I tend to find children's guitars (for which the mustang was originally intended) more comfortable. The jaguar is just too heavy and large for my tastes. As for tone, that can be changed with pickups and wiring, so I take that much less into consideration that I do physical attributes. I would say go for the mustang, but I seem to be one of few. Also, for the music you are playing (which seems to include a lot of alternative/punk rock) the mustang sounds really good even with it's original pickups.

I bought a Kurt Cobain Jaguar and this thing is awesome. The guitar player in my band is a total tone junkie and he loves how the thing can wail. It has dual humbuckers and has a short-scale neck. It is well-suited to those bands you mentioned. It's a little pricey for a Mexican made guitar but you won't be sorry. Only knock against it is that it is reliced to look like Cobain's so it looks beat up.

Look up Andrew Borody - School on youtube and you will be able to hear the guitar tone. REALLY heavy
