Having an issue with a new Blacktop Jazzmaster. The high E string keeps slipping the saddle. Do any other Fender bridge assemblies work with the Jazzmaster, i.e. Can a Telecaster or Stratocaster bridge be used on a Jazzmaster? The guitar has been set up several times, so this is not a set-up issue. Or are there any other ways to mitigate this issue?

Has anyone else had this issue of string slippage with Jazzmaster bridges?

Thanks.

i have the same guitar and had the same problem. i used Loctite Blue (found in many hardware stores) on the saddle screw threads and have not had a problem since. take out each saddle screw one by one, apply one drop to each and replace. let sit for 24 hours and you should be good to go.

as far as replacement i have heard good things about these bridges, http://www.masterybridge.com/home.html

i love the sound of my Blacktop Jazzmaster and was quite frustrated at first but the Loctite Blue solved the issue for me.

I wouldn't recommend gluing screws or parts. The trouble with doing it is it becomes permanent.

There is loads of info to be had at http://www.offsetguitars.com/forums/

Loctite makes all kinds of sealers, from high-heat, never-come-out, to simply hold-it-till-you-change-it. Some are designed so that removal may well strip the screw's head, others simply so it doesn't slip.

Here's what Loctite says about Blue 242:
"Designed for the locking and sealing of threaded fasteners which require normal disassembly with standard hand tools."

Don't use Loctite Red or Green:
"Loctite® Threadlocker Red 271™ is designed for the permanent locking and sealing of threaded fasteners. The product cures when confined in the absence of air between close fitting metal surfaces. It protects threads from rust and corrosion and prevents loosening from shock and vibration. It is only removable once cured by heating up parts to 500°F (260°C)."

"The product [Green] can also be used to fill porosity in welds, casting and powder metal parts. Localized heating and hand tools are needed for disassembly."

Before this post I never noticed that the blacktop Jazz had the modified vintage style bridge. The Blacktop Jag has the adjust-o-matic bridge. Up until the blacktop series, those two guitars shared most all of their hardware except the pickups. (and the diff in scale.)

The Jazzys bridge can be pretty damn picky. you may want to consider getting a new bridge all together. I went with a Mastery Bridge with my Jazzmaster. Its about a $180 bridge but it fixes all the issues with the Jazzmaster and simply drops right in place of the old one. A much cheaper route is to go with a Mustang bridge which is around $30-$40.
Now if you want to be dirt cheap, grab a metal file and put some grooves in the saddles so the string will sit in there nicely. Just make sure you dont make the grooves too deep

sorry, the Mastery Bridge is all hand machined in Minneapolis, MN. Thats the only place you can buy them from and also why they are so expensive.
I think someone else posted the link above but I will do it again just cuz its such an awesome bridge :D

I was having trouble with the saddle screws on the bridge coming loose. I was going to replace it with a Mustang bridge until I realized the radius is different on the Blacktop Jazzmasters. I almost dropped the $180 for the Mastery Bridge but decided not to. Tonight I applied Loctite Blue to the saddle screws and strung it up with .11's. So far so good!

what should i do?

on masterybridge.com you can order some other thimbles? should i order them?

thanks for your help!
