Everything I can find says May of 2008 was the beginning of the Classic Players line
The serial number on my Jag says April 2008.
Further - it has an MIA trem plate?
The screw in MIM arms didn't fit and the dealer had to order an MIA arm sans threads.

Also the body finish?
I'd assume it's one poly or another.
Then why am I seeing almost vertical lines/cracks underneath the topcoat?
The top is smooth but the paint has many lines that almost resemble checking. Is this s finish flaw? Did they use a nitro or some reactive coat underneath the poly?

Sorry for the noob queries.

Well if the CP's came out in May of 08 that means Fender would have to start production of them prior to May. Guitars just can't appear out of thin air. April 08 is fine.

Sorry I cannot comment on Jaguar trems. They are not my forte and I've never owned one. BUT it sound fishy that you dealer ordered an MIA Deluxe Strat trem arm (that's the only Fender trem arm that is sans threads). Funny how you also tried a MIM trem arm and that didn't fit since the only MIM Jag is the Classic Player Jag. Or were you just trying Strat trem arms? Strat and Jag/Jazzmaster trem arms ARE NOT interchangeable! I hope you get it sorted out. Go to guitarpartsresource.com or acmeguitarworks.com for the proper Jag trem arm if your dealer can't figure it out.

Finish is poly on body and neck. Every MIM is that way. I had a MIM Strat once that had horizontal lines (running the length of the grain, same direction as the strings) under the smooth topcoat. It was from the color finish sinking into the wood grain. I thought it was a good thing since it means Fender didn't glob on 1/2" of poly. I just remembered my Baja Tele has the same lines too. Don't worry about it unless the lines are trulu vertical and against the grain as that would be a mystery. Can you post a pic?

Thanks for the information.
Color sinking into the grain is something I never considered.
It seems to be getting a lot "worse" very quickly - almost looks like checking.
