Greetings,

I just purchased a 66 Mustang (white). Everything is intact except the string mutes have been removed and the neck plate is without the "Fender F" and serial number. Everything else seems to check out with the body, neck butt, pots, etc.

Can you tell me where I could get the mutes? Also was there a period of time where the plate would have been without this mark?

The bass plays really nice and doesn't sound bad
at all for a bass those strings are over 30 years old.

Thank you

I smell tuna!

All Fender electrics from this era had their serial number stamped on the neck plate, to include the basses. No exceptions. If yours lacks this, then the instrument's bona fides are suspect.
