I bought a secondhand black Fender Highway 1 Showmaster.
The former owner was not the one who kept his Showmaster in perfect conditions, and lacked cleanlyness of his axe.
There are some scratches, but nothing deep or permenant, it looks they are grease stripes, and other is the body covered in grease stains as if it was used to take meals on.
The Highway one body is finished in nitro and therefore difficult to clean, I now, and it's not that I don't like the nitro patine, but just want to get rid of that greasy look this guitar now has.
How can I clean and make shine the Showmaster in it's original way, without damaging the lacker, maybe some kind of oil.. ???
Pleasse notice I live in Europe and some household or other US products are not availlable here.
It's trully a great guitar and the Enforcer humbucker is really a piece of art, it's just a little bit sad the guitar looks kinda dirty and not looked after now.

Thank you.

Is the original finish on that, the satin typical of Highway Strats? Or is it a gloss finish? I assume it's the former.

If it is a satin finish, any attempt to give it a heavy polish will rub shiny spots into it. So gently does it with a good quality guitar polish and very soft cleaning pads or lint free dusters. If the grease has permeated right into the finish, then you might want to give serious consideration to shining up the whole guitar. That should take care of the grease marks.

I polished up my Highway 1 Strat with a metal polish called Brasso (yes really). Acceptable results, done cheaply and quickly. You can spend a lot more money paying someone to do it with more traditional products and their expertise, but the results won't be that much better than my method.

Your risk though, try a small area on the back or under the backplate and see what you think.

I have been using Dunlop System 65 Guitar maintenance products with good result. It is a 2 step process, first use the Guitar Polish&Cleaner (same bottle) next use the Cream Of Carnauba. Soft dry cloth, I prefer an old tee shirt or cheese cloth for the final buffing.
Two times around with the cleaner followed by a light coat of the carnauba and a gentle buffing should bring back the luster you are looking for.

Good luck,

I have used the same bottle of Gibson Spray Pump Polish for years and that works fine.Personally I wouldn't use anything but a dedicated guitar polish as a lot of polishes contain abrasives that even in minute quanities can cause swirl marks and even worse scratches on a guitar's delicate finish.
