How can I get the tremolo arm on my classic player jazzmaster to stay in place

If you push it in too far it won't stay in place.

The twang bar fits into a collet chuck of sorts. If you remove the plate, the innards are visible. GENTLY squeeze the collet jaws about halfway down with a pliers and the arm will flop less. It worked, here.

TAKE YOUR TIME AND BE CAREFUL!!!!!

Alternatively, 'have heard of folks putting electrical tape around the end and using that to tighten the fit.

I think the Japanese JMs don't have the collet, so the arm falling out is a constant problem. Wouldn't be surprised if the Classic Player was the same.
