I have a pink (pepto-bismol pink) Fender Mustang s/n 502138 which I've found to be a 73' or 74'. The paint appears to be original but I haven't been able to find another pink one on the internet anywhere... Does anyone know why there would be such a color Mustang out there or maybe it's just a really good repaint.. This guitar was given to my by my father almost 10 years ago and he had if for around 10 years before that and it was pink when he bought it somewhere in Indiana.. thank you!!

Although from'64-'69 all Mustangs were red ,white or blue from '70-'79 various other Fender collours were available and Shell Pink could have very well been one of them.It could also have been painted that colour for promotional purposes or for some girl group.

Yeah I wouldn't have picked this color either but it was inherited which makes it priceless to me and it sounds great... Still not sure what my dad was thinking back in the early 80s buying a pink guitar but I'll own it until I give it to my son one day.

It's quite possible that the guitar was painted by Fender because especially in the 60s they used to do one off custom colours and that's why you sometimes see vintage Fenders come up in wild and wonderful one-off colours for outrageously high prices. The practice may have still been going on when your Mustang was made even though the standard colours at the time were red, white and blue and just maybe sunburst.

Maybe it was repainted at the factory? I saw a '66 Fender Telecaster that was repainted Shell Pink at the factory(below).
