Hi,
I'm 15 years old and I worked my butt off this christmas break to get enough money to buy my first electric guitar. I really wanna buy a strat but i'm limited by a $400-$500 budget. I played my friend's strat before and really enjoyed it. I've heard a lot of bad things about squiers and starcasters though. I found an Ibanez Gio priced at $180 but I don't know which guitar to get because I'm pretty inexperienced with this kind of stuff. :? I've always wanted a fender but I'm really not sure what to get. I really want my first guitar to be special.
any help or advice would be much appreciated! :D

If you can i would look at Korean Squiers, they are always good quality and easily in your budget.
I think your budget would get you a Fender Toronado too, they come up on ebay now and then. They are good quality but more of a Fender/Gibson mix in sound and feel. In fact i have quite a big guitar collection including Jaguars, Strats, Gibsons and i find myself using my Toronado the most.

I think Mexican Strats are the best way to go for a guitar that's inexpensive, built solidly and sounds great.

yeah go ahead and get a mexican strat and a g dec junior amp (if u don't already have an amp) but the common rule is play the guitar first and try to get a feel of it. Especially if you're a beginer, you should go for a guitar that like you as much as you like it. If you liked the feel of that strat you played real well than by all means go on a guitar site and buy a standard strat. If you need to sell it again, you can get most of your money back because it's such a desirable model. Good luck!
