Should I list it as a relic? It is in decent shape, but since the re-issues have been named, "Vintage", I want to avoid confusion. The finish has also been sanded off and maybe stained? Looks ok though, just not like the standard. It was in this condition when I received it.

Also, on the end of the neck it is stamped, "4 MAY 62B". What is the B?

I was planning on listing this on ebay. Am I allowed to post the link here when I do? I am selling this for a relative, so I don't have all the history on it.

I do play a Fender Strat so I figured It was worth the time to sign up. Sadly, it was not MIA, but I love it. Many nice guitars on fender.com caught my interest with my research too. I like the Billy Corgan and Eric Clapton Strats, I will have to check out some reviews.

The "4 MAY 62B" markings on the heel of the neck reveal the date that the neck was completed (though not necessarily the date it was attached to a guitar body) and the width of the fretboard at the nut. At this time (1962) Fender offered four different neck widths, each size designated "A", "B", "C", and "D". The "B" designated the standard width, with the "A" reserved for a narrower measurement and the "C" and "D" used to indicate progressively wider-than-stock fretboards.

You would be forthright if you listed this instrument as "vintage-used", with a non-factory non-standard refinish.

Best of luck, HTH

Arjay

I would steer clear of the word relic--that typically implies a new guitar that has been artificially aged to appear old. The best description for your instrument, in my opinion, is simply 1962 Jazzmaster. And by all means reveal any non-standard features and finishes. I also recommend not posting the listing here because selling is not allowed on this forum. Good luck! 8)
