I own a CP JM and having a bit of an issue with 10's regarding bending and overall chord playing, the tension seems to be to heavy in order for me to do these simple techniques, i know that the JM "Ode" usually reffers to 11's or 12's as a ideal string gague for these guitars because of the whole bridge raddle and stuff, but really, is it putting 9's or even Hybrid 9's on it a big mistake?

I had flatwound 11's on my Jazzmaster when I first got it. I thought they were OK and I kept them for awhile, mostly because of all the internet advice about using heavy strings to keep the strings from popping out of the bridge, etc. One day I decided to try 10's just for the hell of it. I use .010/.038 roundwounds on all my solidbody electrics. When I put these on the Jazzmaster, it felt like coming home. I have not felt the need to change guages since then. I have no trouble whatsoever with strings popping out of the bridge, and mine is the AVRI design, which is supposedly more prone to that compared to the CP. I don't think I would want to go lighter than .010s, but 010s have been working great for me.

Personally like D-R .011 flatwounds on the Jazzmaster. Good for surf, lounge, jazz, older pop.

I believe that the original Jazzmasters and Jaguar came from the factory with flatwound strings but I don't know what guage they were.
