I would like to purchase either the Classic Player Jaguar HH or the Special Edition Jaguar HH. I'm aware of the obvious differnces between the two: (different pups and different bridges). However, I'm confused about how the switches differ between guitars.

I have attempted to find manuals for both guitars but havn't been able to find the info i'm looking for. After hours of searching I've come to the conclusion somebody here might be able to help me.

The Classic Player claims to have a humbucker/single-coil blend control which I am VERY interested in. It also is supposed to have a master kill switch. Where are these controls located?

The Special Edition does not have these features listed on the fender website, but it does seem to have the same switches as the Classic Player. Also the fender website does not specify what all the controls for this guitar do.

Can somebody please explain to me what all the controls on these guitars do and if they differ(or don't) between the two guitars. Thank you in advance.

Ok, it's a bit complex. You have a rhythm/lead circuit switch. When on rhythm, the rollers up there are your vlume and tone, when you switch it to lead, your knobs are you controls. On the little hexagon you have your pup controls, on/pff for each pup and a filter switch that will get you a bit more bite from your treble.

So do both of these guitars have the same controls? What I'm still confused about is that on the fender website it doesn't list the auxiliary switching options for the Special Edition.

And also now that I understand the basic controls, where would the aux switches be located?

For the Classic Player it lists the aux switches as: "Master Kill Slide Switch, Neck Pickup Humbucking/Single-Coil Blend Control, Bridge Pickup Humbucking/Single-Coil Blend Control".

by the special you mean the black one with dragster pups right? in every vid i see of it people use it as a jazz or funk guitar... how does it handle distortion?

Thanks for your help on understanding the basic switches on a jaguar guitar.

I just read a post on yahoo answers that states that the roller switches on the CP Jag are actually the coil split blend switches.

So now I believe I have figured it out. The controls on the CP Jag HH are vastly different from a standard Jag and also from the Special Edition.

On the Classic Player Jaguar HH the switch on the horn of the guitar closest to where the strap attaches is the master kill switch.

The knobs near the bridge are the master volume and tone. On the CP Jag the neck and bridge pups do not have there own volume and tone.

I believe the switches on the hexagon thing are standard Jaguar controls: (Neck Pickup On/Off Slide Switch, Bridge Pickup On/Off Slide Switch, Normal/Low Cut Slide Switch)

That would leave the two switches next to the kill switch as the roller switches in control of coil split blending for the neck pup and the bridge pup.

I'm so relieved to have finally pieced together this puzzle that has been on my mind for days. I'll definitely be buying this guitar in 2 weeks. I'll let you guys know what I think of it when I get it.

you won't go wrong with either. I have the special and love it, the pickups are strong, the neck is roomy and responsive. It is a real smooth thick toned guitar. I think the switches are the same on both... don't let them confuse you they are not really that difficult. There is actually a highly viewed video on youtube of some kid explaining the switches that i watched before i bought it and he was spot on. I would give the nod to the Special but that is for me, so play both of them and one will speak to you.

It depends if you want the coil split or not really.

I can confirm that this is all right. I have been playing with this same type of guitar today. It's very nice. I was confused by the top switch because it was cutting the sound. As described above, that's because on the classic player version, this is a kill switch that is just like muting the whole guitar. The wheels next to it are blend controls.

I have the Classic Player Jaguar HH (white) and absolutely love it. The circuit allows for a very broad range of sounds, from a twangy tele to a grungy les paul. I replaced my Les Paul with this guitar and have never looked back. It is a wonderful piece of hardware. I put together a diagram showing all the settings/knobs/dials. I am going from memory, but I am pretty sure it is correct. You will love this guitar, get it!

The SE has the chrome-covered Dragsters; it was also available as a baritone model for about 1-2 years.

The CP uses dual Enforcer humbucking pickups with blendable coil-tap abilities for a killer array of humbucking, single-coil, series/parallel and out-of-phase sounds.

Fender offered the SE Jaguar HH in flat black; however, a small batch of Jaguars were also available with a 3-colour sunburst finish and an aged cream pickguard for the Japanese domestic market.

I currently have a 62 reissue and a CP Special in Cherry Red. I have a feeling that I must have a CP Special HH to just to round out the family. Seems like it has endless tonal possibilities.
