Sorry if this is a repost. This forum is not loving my computer. :)

Yesterday I bought at Fender Coronado for $200. I didnt know anything about the guitar, I just have a thing for hollow bodies and I loved the feel of it. My issue is the head stock says Fender Coronado II, but my guitar only has a single neck pickup. What little info I could find online states the Coronado II model actually had two pickups. I looked up my serial number from the metal plate on the back and according to a website my guitar was made sometime from 1966-67.

Anyone know if any Coronado II's had a single pickup or is there a chance my guitar is not all original and someone swapped necks? Im not out much money, so either way I am still loving the guitar. I'd just like to know what I have and there is not much info out there on the Fender Coronado. Also I cant see any paper lable on the inside through the f holes, which makes it harder to identify.

Thanks for the help.

P.s,

it looks like the body has been touched up poorly with some red paint around the edges. I am thinking of stripping all the paint and giving the guitar a nateral finish, although I dont know if that would be a poor idea on a vintage guitar and could hurt what value there is in it. thoughts on that?

regards,
joel

If the finish on the guitar is largely original I wouldn't do anything to it but if it has been previously refinished(and poorly)the damage to the value has been done and a refinish wouldn't hurt.Concerning the neck,it's most likely that the original was replaced as the Coronado II was indeed a two pickup model, but you still got a great guitar at a bargain price, give yourself a pat on the back.

hi
bit late with this and probably quite insulting
The coronado I says I on the head but it is written italics with two outer lines so if you have not seen the II written down it could confuse.
The thing that won't confuse is the binding and blocks.

They are very nice, underrated guitars, as they were a little off of the regular expected line of guitars from Fender.
Too bad

Quick question... I stumbled across a vintage Coronado 2 body, no neck, pickups etc.. and I'm toying with the idea of making it a project guitar. But I haven't seen a Coronado neck anywhere. And I'm a maple fretboard sort of guy anyways. Any idea if the Coronado would accept a standard Stratocaster neck?
Thanks
Dale
