Let me start by saying hello. This is my first post on these forums, and I figured you would be just the guys to ask about my fender Mustang. The serial and neck plate both indicate that it's a 1966. As you can see from the pics (in link below) though, it is shell pink. It's hard to tell on a few of the pictures, but it is definitely shell pink. As far as I know, Fender didn't offer this color on mustangs this year, but as far as I can tell this looks like original finish to me. It still even has the little trapezoid heel joint thing (not pictured) inside the neck pocket. When I looked under the covers and in the neck pocket there was nothing that indicates to me that this was refinished. Does anybody know about this?

Sorry about the subpar pics, I'll try to get more/better ones. Let me know if more information would be helpful. Thanks.

She's a pretty baby and in good shape. The standard colours for a Mustang in 66 were Dakota red,Daphne Blue and Olympic White. If the finish looks original my guess would be that it may have been a one off done for promotional purposes or maybe(and that's a big maybe)it was painted as one of several instruments painted for a musical group(such as The $@!&# Cats or another girl group).I have seen finishes done by professional body shops where all the hardware is removed from the guitar and the whole thing including the body cavity is painted and they have been so good that they looked original.Anyway that's the only things that I can come up with either way you got a great little vintage guitar that sounds great-I know,I have a 65.

i love mustangs and i have been looking to buy a vintage one. i am 16 so finding the cash can be difficult but the mustangs were orginally made in red white and blue. My personal opinion it could be either the original paint (white fender paint will be come a creamy yellowy color). Or it could be re finished but when i see it it look original.

Its an aged white.
