So i really like 3/4 scale guitar ( squier mini ) and ive eben looking lately for a duo sonic .. im checking between a 1960s and the reissue MIM in 1993-1994 .

I came acrosss this one . i know this guitar isnt 100 % original and i dont really care im not a collector . it says body have been refinished and neck had been relogo somewhere in his life .

Now the maple fretboard is said to be a 1956 by the date ( first era ) ... but the decals say Duo sonic II which were introduced in the third era 1964-1969

do you think the neck is legit ???

here the picture of the guitar .

http://cgi.ebay.com/1956-fender-duo-son ... 53e203da43

i wonder if that neck is legit .. the duo sonic being a short-scale .. theres probably not much counterfit in that model .

what do you think about the price .. too expeensive for a short scale non originale guitar or the price is good .

thank you.

is their a way to counterfeit a neck and give it a look like is was 50 years old ??

the decal look weird cause it say duo sonic II and the decal is way too clean for the neck age .

the think is that i dont really care about it being vintage

im gonna switch the pickup for a humbucker ( single coil size ) anyway ..

so im not looking for a completelty vintage .. im not collector or purist . i just love short scale guitar and the duo-sonic is the one that interested me the most .

i just make sure the guitar will play nice and that the neck is not a 2000 that they made look for a 1956 . .

Im not gonna spend 1500-2000 on a 100 % vintage if i want to modified it anyway .

now i dont know if i should go mexico for around 250-300 or get a non original 1960s for around 600-700 $ .

there sno way im paying 1500 for a completely vintage collector item Duo sonic .

The Duo-Sonic, along with the Musicmaster and the Mustang, received several cosmetic changes and redesigns over the years. Late-1970s Duo-Sonics and Musicmasters had "Bronco" styling.

These guitars are not mine, though I consider their original 50s and 60s versions better than this late 70s Bronco-like junk.

I'd pass on that particular Duo Sonic, regarding the neck, int he info he states that the decal is of the later model. If I were you I would buy one of the new reissues made by Squire as they are pretty decent little guitars. Anyway it would be a sin to alter a guitar over 50 yrs old by putting a humbucker in it.Over the years Ive seen people perform horrible atrocities on vintage guitars so I get very worried when someone says vintage and mod in the same sentence.

Atrocities? I partially disagree. They are many musicians who got later their own reputation to being famous luthiers.

Becoming a luthier is decidedly a very tedious job, you should learn a lot of skills first before building a new guitar and hot-rodding it with any mod you like (putting a a neck humbucker on a Telecaster or a B-Bender on a Strat are some examples).

I almost went for that guitar on ebay. Too many things that did not add up for me so I passed on it. I can tell you for sure a real original pre-CBS Duo-Sonic is a killer guitar. Way too many people bought them and then modified the heck out of them so there are very few left in original condition. They are baby strats and are one of Fenders best guitars IMHO. If you're going to go routing and putting in humbuckers buy a chinese made squire duo-sonic and have at it. You won't be able to find a pre-cbs Duo-sonic that's all original for $1,500 anyways.

I've seen so many great old guitars ruined for the most ridiculous reasons, such as cutting the top horn off a 62 Strat because it wouldn't fit in an old $50 case etc.If you want to mod something don't use a relic but a current playable guitar that's not likely to become a "Holy Grail".You did the right thing passing on that guitar.

You are so right slinger. Leave the old surviving original guitars alone. I just did a mod Esquire using a new MIM 50's Esq with a custom hand-wound pickup, all new electronics (using what Leo would've used in the 1950's), and changing the bridge so the T's are threaded steel. Did the set up myself and now I have one rocking bad-a** knock around guitar that sounds amazing and plays like butter. The MIM neck on this baby is super well done.
