You might need a new nut, or at leat shims in it for guitar strings. Likely also need a setup/ neck tweak. Might want to go with 13s or 14s?

Old USA VIs in metro Chicago tend to be in the $4500 range. 'Never seen an MIJ; looks nice..

Do an ebay search for completed listings of Bass VI's to get an idea of current prices for the MIJ ones. Last I checked a couple of years ago they had skyrocketed in price to $1000. They are probably higher now since I saw a craigslist ad for one today that claimed they are selling for $2000. I remember MIJ Bass VI's sitting in Guitar Center collecting dust in the late 1990's. They couldn't get rid of them at $400 - $500. I kick myself now for not getting one when they were cheap. Too bad they've been discontinued for a long time now.

There are recent USA Custom Shop versions out there too, but those are even pricier of course.

JSJH covered the vintage prices.

Cream City Music in Wisconsin had an excellent new USA for about-ish $2500 recently. Outstanding instrument.
