I recently bought a '78 Fender Bronco and everything seems to be original on it (The way it should always be!) except for one thing that just doesn't seem right. On the headstock there are two string retainers but on every bronco except for one other I've ever seen there has only been one string retainer. So I was wondering if anyone knew more about the bronco and if it may have at some point came out of factory with two string retainers on it. If it didn't I'm trying to decide if it would be smart on an originality stand point to remove the extra string retainer and fill the screw hole in with a wood putty or something to disguise the hole and revert the guitar to as close to 100% original as possible.

Thanks for reading.

Yea, one string tree on all Broncos.

This one here, a 67 was also added a tree:
