hey everyone,

I'm really liking the tone from the CIJ '65 RI Mustang, so I've been considering buying a neck pickup from a Mustang for my Telecaster.

So, can anyone update me on whether or not this will fit? I know it's angled on the Mustang, so would I need to cut an esquire pickguard to compensate or whatnot?

Let me know how it all works.

Thanks!

A Mustang pickup is essentially Strat pickup sized. It will not fit in the neck position of your Tele without routing of the body. If you were to order an aftermarket pickguard, simply ask for one with a Strat sized neck pickup cut out.

I have a MIM Tele though, it has a humbucker sized cavity in the neck. Would this work providing I get the right pickguard?

Yes.

I'd mention that the Mustang neck pickup is much closer towards the bridge that the Tele pickup. Placement makes a difference in how it sounds. The Tele is also a longer scale length IIRC, which makes a bit of difference as well. If you're having a pickguard made, you might ask for the pickup cutout to be placed relative to where a Mustang pickup would be(while still fitting into the body rout).

I actually like the Mustang/Duo Sonic pickup placement. Someday I'll cut a Strat pickguard with those positions.

Thats the idea. I have a humbucker sized cavity, so I can either throw it in a Strat-sized pickguard, or just get a new one made to put the pickup on an angle.
