The Showmaster was Fender's real successful attempt to make a superstrat-style guitar. These guitars are perhaps famous for their set-neck design, luxurious carved tops and hand-scraped edges. Not all Showmasters were set-necks, though. Some were available with a bolt-on birdseye maple neck.

The first Showmasters were made in 1998 at the Fender Custom Shop by Gene Baker, founder and CEO of Baker guitars. Later models were built in Korea and came in a variety of pickup configurations and fancy tonewoods. Fender discontinued the Showmaster series and their Squier variants in 2009.

Many Custom Shop Showmasters came with a choice of bridges. This Team Built One-Off Showmaster (which is not mine) features a translucent amber finish over a solid ash body and an original Floyd Rose Tremolo.

Stagemasters are totally different animals. These Squier-branded superstrats featured a Floyd Rose-licensed locking tremolo and a reverse headstock. Fender later changed the Stagemaster name to Showmaster, however, both the Fender and Squier Showmasters had their own unique style.

PS: The first Chinese-made Stagemasters of 1999 were essentially modified Stratocasters.

Haven't played a Showmaster, but I love my Stagemaster. The Stagemaster also has 24 frets - the pic of the Showmaster above looks like a standard Strat neck.

i actually just got a showmaster yesterday, its incredible. i personally love strats, theyre my favorite guitar and i have one, so i was always a little wary of the superstrat design. but, this guitar changed my mind (maybe because its made by fender :P). the tone is incredible, the finish is beautiful, and the feel is impeccable.

The earlier Squier Stagemasters resemble very much to a downsized Stratocaster. They also got a 22-fret rosewood neck.

Later models were radical superstrats with full 2-octave necks and no pickguards.

I bought my Showmaster Standard in 2002 from MF. It was made in the custom shop by Mike Eldred. I would post a picture but I don't have a website to post through. It's the best playing Fender I've ever owned. Tune it once before a gig and it stays in tune all night long, even with major dive bombs with the tremelo bar. Mine has 22 frets, locking tuners, SS nut with ball bearings. Here is a link to MF that shows the different models that were available when I bought mine. Mine is Crimson with a maple neck.
