Even if it is a fake, it more than likely came from the Korean plant where the Toro GT, Showmaster FMT, and Tele FMT are made.

I wouldn't use the term "fake." It's more like "unofficial" IMHO.

I found a photo of one these online a few years back. I think that is a Toronado CT P90 (w/Quilt Top), limited run for the European Market and I think there was a flame top version too. They had SD pickups

Ha ha!

No way! I have the exact same guitar. The serial number is 04052143. So this thing is a fake? So supposedly some korean made a couple of really bad $@! guitars, slapped a fender sticker on them, snuck them in to a consignment of other korean fenders and shipped them around the world. I know it arrived with another batch of fenders. Seems like a strange thing to do.

Oh well, i guess i feel cheated its not a fender, but hey, it's an amazing guitar, I've got an american strat, 60th anniversary delux tele and a gibson sg standard, and the quality of this mystery guitar is impressive even when compared with the best. Obviously not as good, but I bought it for a tenth of the price of the other ones. I actually bought it cos I'd never seen one before and i like p-90's.

I wonder if i can flog it as a super custom shop model...

So underground not even fender know about them...

Damnit....

Don't sweat it.

Whatever somebody is saying, I'm convinced that is a guitar made in Korea's Fender factory..

It's made in Korea, but instead of paint and L-Stripes has glossy finish over beautiful mahagony veneer.

neck is solid, opposed to the usual korean ones which afaik are bolt-on.

You have the serial number, send it to Consumer Relations and they will send you an "as built" for it. E-mail: consumerrelations@fender.com

Or identify it as a forgery.

I sent my serial number in to fender, and a description of my guitar to fender consumer relations. They replied with:

"We believe that this is a Fake and isn’t an actual Fender product."

That was the whole message as well. They also feel that as it is a fake they have no obligation to reimburse or replace the guitar, even though I purchased it from a legitimate fender dealer. The guitar dealer I bought it from thought it was real. So where in the chain of distribution did someone sneak the fakes in? As they appear to have found there way around the world. Very suspicious.

Oh well, that's the last time I ever deal with Fender. Looks like I'm gonna have to start playing Gibson again...

The dealer is responsible for providing the fake not Fender. I did say they would let you know if it was a forgery, they have saved me from buying a bogus instrument more than once.

Right you are son.

It was an authorised fender dealer though, and you'd kinda expect a guitar bought there to be legit. The dealer I bought it from don't know its fake though. It must have been one of the initial dealers that snuck them into a consignment of fenders. In Europe I suspect, as pip got his there, and I'm pretty sure Fenders in South Africa are imported through Europe. So there's no way I'm gonna get my money back, unless I go die hard and pillage and rape my way up the organisation until I can kill the guilty party in a dramatic gun battle thereby restoring my honour. Or something...

It's still a damn nice guitar. So what the hell. Roll with it I guess.

i don't think it's a fake. looks almost identical to the showmaster HH i had. serial number font, set neck, quilt, knobs, hardware. even the logo is identical. if you run your finger over it, can you feel it?

looks legit. it's even more rare if it is, because i've never seen a copy of a set-neck fender.

Yeah, the logo is silver and raised slightly so you can feel it. I find it hard to believe it is a fake, but fender are convinced it is, and want nothing to o with it. Maybe the finish is radioactive and causes impotency and testicular cancer so they're trying to distance themselves from it :P

With all due respect, I don't care what Fender say about it. I'm sure there are things going on at the factory they know nothing about!

I'd swap your "fake" (radioactive, cancer inducing) Toronado with my completely official Korean Fender Toronado GT HH any day of the week!

So.......the next thing I want to say is that as far as I know (and you're gonna have to take my word that I SHOULD know) none of the folks here would respond by saying anything is a fake without holding it in our hands and checking it out with a fine tooth comb. You can see by this thread that its very hard to deny OR confirm sometimes. As i believe Adey pointed out, ALL of us here in the USA may not know of everything produced, especially when shipped direct from our vendor to our distributors. Then sometimes....as in this case...we had to dig deeper to verify. Suffice to say that we normally don't deal in absolutes and therefore normally don't convey them in our answers.
pip-le-pip, to the best of my knowledge you should have received an email from Consumer Relations with the Specs listed above.
ok, ok...it IS a little embarrassing   but on the upside...when time permits, we DO read the Forums and respond as we can to "hmmmm..." situations like this.
So let's summarize! (with disclaimers) as far as we can tell the guitar pictured is the model with the posted specs above. We can't confirm absolutely of course, but we reasonably believe that it is an honest to goodness sure as I'll get out Fender Toronado® CT P90 (Quilt Bubinga Top).
Nice thread guys. Thanks for hanging in there!!
Best regards,
rob

Rob, you're a star and thanks for taking the time to clarify this.

Nice to see a big organisation going the extra mile for a customer.
