Hi All,
I recently purchased a 1964 Fender Jazz Bass. It's in fine condition throughout for it's age and apart from a body refinish and a newer pick guard it's all original. But I have a question. The tuning posts are losing their (what looks like) chrome plating, are they chrome plated? I've never seen this before on a vintage guitar, this might show how many vintage guitars I've had dealings with. The cloverleaf tuning pegs are a different finish to the posts, matte vs. shiny, (see pic). Is this a common trait and what's your respective opinions on whether I should get them re-chromed or not?

Thanks to any who can help me with this......Kegs.

I have 3 65 Fenders and all the tuners have lost some of their chrome/nickle plating,it's just part of growing old.Personally I'd leave everything as is just to keep some of the original vibe,I've learned the hard way to do as little as possible to a vintage instrument.

Thanks for the input there, guitslinger. I agree 100%, my own chrome plating is coming away in chunks as I get older, just takes a different form is all, going grey, receding hairline etc. Doesn't mean I can't still play a decent tune. :D

Cheers......K.
