I have a Fender Bullet..It was made in the U.S.A. ...I believe it was made in the eighties because is has the letter E1...so that should mean Eighty One? Is this correct?

I have also seen other pics of 1981 US Bullets and the neck plate behind the neck all have the F on them. Mine does not. It just plain metalic with a serial number on it. Did my local music store rip it off when I let him change the strings? I never noticed if there was an F or not on the plate. But after see all those pics, I wonder.

The E1... serial number would designate a 1981. My Bullet has an E1... SN however, it is on the headstock.

My neckplate has the F on it and nothing else. I do not know if having the F on the neckplate proves anything. I have read that when they changed from Tele to Strat style bodies, there may have been some hybrid (from a parts used in the assembly perspective) Bullets produced. My Bullet has the Strat style body.

May I ask if your Bullet has the Tele or Strat style body? Also, is the only serial number on the neckplate?

Sorry I have not been more helpful. I have not been focused on the history of the Bullet as much as some.

Thanks for the info! The body is more like a strat. I will try to post some pics if I can on this site. The serial number is also on the headstock.

Post the pics and also join the "Bullet owners club" at www.TDPRI.com the Telecaster devotee site. Here's the link to the thread.

http://www.tdpri.com/forum/telecaster-d ... wners.html

Despite being a refuge for Tele owners they have a thread that is continually updated by loyal early Bullet owners. Ignore the first few posts where they debate whether to restrict membership to Fender Bullets as ALL early production Bullets, by "Fender", "Squier by Fender" and "Squier" are welcome. Tell "Jayson" Jim from NJ says "hello".

If you have any questions contact me or post here and I'll help as much as I can, I currently have three including a Squier by Fender Bullet "1" Tele shaped HSS and a Strat style as well, both with the "Silver Star" headstock label.

These are FANTASTIC guitars and as I've said before often overlooked and highly under-rated thus usually affordable when they are up for sale.

Also you may want to search this site under BOTH Stratocasters and Telecasters and at TDPRI for other threads containing info on your model. Not long ago, last month in fact John Page former Head of Development for Fender and "father" of the Fender Lead II and early "Bullet Series" guitars posted on the thread info on the Bullet line. He remains a occasional visitor to that site and is helping a member compile a history of the Bullet Series and the various models offered from 1980-1987 (approx).

Here are the pics of the 1981 Fender Bullet. Notice no F on the neck plate. There is a serial number though. The head stock shows the E for eighties.

Would you consider this a more of a "Strat" body. I think so. I have seen other Bullets with rounded corners that look more like a Tele.

Great looking Bullet!

You are correct. That's the Strat style body.

All the research I've done indicates the change from the Tele style to Strat style body started in 1982.

There is a surprising amount of information in that TDPRI thread Jersey recommended. Definitely check it out when you can.
